The Charlotte Carson Chapter of the UDC in the Spring of 1911 invited Captain E.V. White of Norfolk, Virginia to speak to their club while visiting his niece, Mrs. Joseph Kent. He gave an account of the battle between the Monitor and the Merrimac, he having been the Captain of the Merrimac (p. 240). Mrs. Joseph Kent was listed as part of the local staff for the 44th Convention of the United Confederate Veterans which met in Tifton on Oct. 13-15, 1937. Mrs. Elsberry Dana Kent served as President of the Charlotte Briggs Carson Chapter for 6 years. She is also listed as an active member in 1946-1947 and as the Corresponding Secretary in 1937 (p. 241). OBITUARY: Obituary announcement in the Daily Tifton Gazette, Thursday 11 & 12 Feb 1959. (Microfilm copy in ABAC Library, Tifton, GA. States that she was born in Macon, GA on 23 Jan 1880, her parents were Mr. & Mrs. White Dana. List 5 children, and brother O.N. Dana of Atlanta, and sister Julia Tomlinson of Coral Gables, Florida. Marriage date of 6 Aug 1902. From the Register Book for Funeral, Bowen Donaldson Funeral Home, Tifton, Georgia. Hymns at funeral were Old Rugged Cross, Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone. Pallbearers were W.W. Henderson, Roy Fowler, Eddie Willis, Willis Latham, Jack Radcliffe, W.G. Massey.
