BIOGRAPHY: In 1725 James and Elizabeth Murray left Suffolk Parish, Nansemond County, Virginia moving to Bertie Precinct, Albemarle County, North Carolina.
!LAND: On 10 May 1725 "James Murrow" of Nansemond County Virginia bought 250 acres in Albemarle County, Bertie Precinct, from Thomas Roads and wife Mary for £10. (Deed Book A, page 404, Bertie County) (Walters)
!LAND: On Nov. 9, 1725 "James Murray" of Bertie Precinct, Albemarle County, North Carolina bought 200 more acres from "Thomas and Mary Rhodes" (Deed Book B, page 38, Bertie County) (Walters)
!LAND: On May 9, 1726 James Murray sold 200 acres in Virginia to Moses Grandbury for £10 making a profit of £3. (Deed Book B, page 124, Bertie County) (Walters)
!LAND: In 1728 James and Elizabeth sold 50 acres of 150 acres in Nansemond County Virginia (because of a fire destroying County records all that is known of this deal is in Volume IV, page 529, Herrings Statues of Virginia) (Walters)
!LAND: On Aug 11, 1729 James bought 240 acres in Bertie Precinct from John Edwards for £15. (Deed Book C, page 141, Bertie County) (Walters)
!LAND: In the 4 years from 1725 to 1729 he bought 690 acres for £32 and sold 500 acres for £51, making a profit of £19 and still owning 190 acres. (Walters)
!LAND: In 1731 Onslow, a new county, was proposed in North Carolina from the new Hanover County. This proposal was passed in 1734 with James Murray as the Justice of Peace. (Walters)
!RESIDENCE: James and Elizabeth were witnesses to a will of Joseph Munford of Onslow County, North Carolina. (Walters)
!LAND: In April of 1732 James sold the remainder of his Bertie County, Virginia Land to John Edwards, Jr. (Walters)
!RESIDENCE: James Murray was a juror in Onslow County, North Carolina in 1735 (Colonial Records of North Carolina) (Walters)
!LAND-RESIDENCE: There were 3 land grants in Onlsow County, North Carolina to James Murray, the first being Sept 14, 1737 for 640 acres (Volume 4, page 280) the second being Nov 19, 1744 for 150 acres (Volume 5), the third being Apr 10, 1745 for 150 acres (Volume 4, page 165). All of this land was located on the New River, near Cape Fear, North Carolina. (Walters)
!LAND-RESIDENCE: There was a James Murray living in Nansemond County, Virginia in 20 Apr 1682, and 4 Nov 1685. James Murray received land 21 Apr 1690 in this county. There was also a Daniel Murray in this same area in 1666. It is not known who the father of James Murray is. (Caveliers and Pioneers, Volume I, page 539 and Volume II, page 232, 283, 294, 342.)
