BIOGRAPHY: Samuel Reid was a member of the Committee of Safety, Rowan District, North Carolina in 1775. He died in Putnam County, Georgia. Emmaline Jernigan Moore (Barlow) was admitted membership in the Colonial Dames of America on 1/14/1963 based on submission of her lineage to Samuel Reid. This was application C1281. A copy of the application in the possession of Tommy Bargeron, the copy obtained from Robin Bargeron. This document proves the lineage from Samuel Reid to Matthew Howell MOORE.

BIOGRAPHY: Samuel Reid came from the Northern part of Ireland or Scotland about the middle of the eighteenth century and first settled in the Piedmont region of Pennsylvania. Later he moved with his father's family to Rowan County (now Iredell County) North Carolina and was here in 1753 and 1765 when he took deeds to land there. His home at first, being in his block house on plantation on Dubleman's Creek, a branch of Yadkin River. He was a member of the famous Committee of Safety and organized a large troop of soldiers in Rowan County, North Carolina which he commanded during the Revolutionary War. Previously he had been a member of the Mecklenburg Convention which framed the original Declaration of Independence. He was prominent as a planter. In 1788 he moved to Shoulder Bone Creek in Greene (now Hancock) County, Georgia. His plantation in Putnam (formerly Baldwin) County, Georgia was sold to his sons Samuel, Jr. and Alexander.

!MILITARY: The local chapter of the DAR of Eatonton, Georgia is named in the honor of Captain Samuel Reid.
