BIOGRAPHY: William Seaborn Peters was born in 1814 in South Carolina and died 1886. He married Senie Lee (born in 1812, died in 1851) daughter of Joshua Lee. He then married Mary Hughes (born 1822) daughter Jacob Hughes of Barnwell District, South Carolina. William Seaborn Peters served in the Indian War from 1837-1838 and served as First Corporal in Jesse Carter's Company of Lowndes County Militia, he was Captain of Militia for 661st district of Lowndes County from 1847 to 1855. He joined the Old Union Church, near Lakeland Georgia, on 10/11/1840 and Senie joined on 9/9/1848. She died shortly after 1851 and was buried there. He was a member of the Butler Lodge F&AM and Milltown Masonic. He became a charter member of Stockton Lodge # 266 at Stockton. He withdrew in 1868 for religious reasons, but was reinstated in 1869. He moved to Sumter County, Florida in 1870 and then to Alafair River, Hillsborough County, then to Fort Meade, then to Polk County where he lived until his death in 1886. He died suddenly at supper. They transferred their church membership to Mount Enon Church. Pollie lived until 1903 and died at the home of Betty Hicks, her daughter. William Seaborn and Mary Hughes are buried at Mount Enon Cemetery, near Plant City, Florida. William Seaborn Peters according to some sources died in 1886 in Florida (Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, Volume III, pages 261-262).

BIOGRAPHY: William S. Peters and his second wife Mary Hughes owned and operated a Hotel in Naylor in Lowndes County during the Civil War and until they sold out and moved to Florida. He also owned a farm near Naylor where he lived before he moved into the village of Naylor (Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, Volume V, pages 568).

!CENSUS: 1860 Census of Lowndes County, Georgia shows William S. Peters (45), born in South Carolina, a farmer and ???, the following were in his household: Mary (38), Stephen (18) a plowman, George (16), Isam (13), Mary (7), Sylvester (5), Kissy (4), Nirro? (2), Charles (7/12), with a number of other persons listed as living on his place: a widow, 4 plowmen, a clerk, 2 merchants, manager RR station, a rail splitter, and others.
