HUSBAND NOTES: - !PARENTS-SPOUSE-CHILDREN-BIRTH-DEATH: Broderbund World Family Tree CD ROM, Volume 2, file 1670, Volume 3, file 2092. George Reid was in Captain Yancey's Company of Foote Regiment, commanded by Colonel Richard Henderson in 1771. He fought in the Revolutionary War and was severely wounded when pierced through by a large musket ball. To cleanse the wound a army surgeon drew a silk handkerchief through his body. He recovered, fought through the war and lived years after. He was also a private in Captain Franklin's Company belonging to the 10th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel Edward Stephens. Records show he received pay from 28 Mar to 30 Jun 1777 for $6 and 2/3. He was on the muster roll of the Georgia Militia Troop of Dragoons on 25 Feb 1794. He was granted headright land of 350 acres in 1785, 50 acres in 1796 in Wilkes County, Georgia. Was granted 400 acres on the northeast bank of Ogeechee River in Greene County, Georgia in 1798. He and his brothers moved together to Wilkes and Greene County, Georgia after 5 Feb 1786 because Georgia so promply ratified the US Constitution and that was the ideal of freedom. They were born in Europe under autocratic rule.
