OBITUARY: "Permelia Tolbert, one of the oldest persons in Madison County, Georgia died in her 95 year, at the home of her youngest son, H.H. Tolbert, Dec. 20, 1903. She was the oldest child of the late Elijah and Judy Williams, and married Harmon Tolbert, deceased in 1892, with whom she lived happily for 53 years. She joined the Baptist Church in early life at old Moriah, or "Brushy Creek," before the division of the denominations in 1836. For more than 75 years shw was a consistent and devoted member of the Baptist Church. For the last 55 years of her life she was a member of the Missionary wing of Union church, in this county, spending the whole of her life in these two churches. The children who survived her are Messers. Wm. A. and H.H. Tolbert, Mesdames Sarah A. Gunnels, Lucy E. Crawford, Nancy Jane Chandler of Neese, and Mr. Joe T. Tolbert, Hull, Ga."
