HUSBAND NOTES: William Sumner was the only child of Roger Sumner of Bicester in the County of Oxford (12 miles from the city of Oxford) in England. William was only 2 years old when his father made his will on 3 Dec 1608, it was probated 22 Mar 1609. William Sumner came to America in 1636 with his wife Mary. He was a Selectman and Representative for many years (Genealogical Directory of the First Settlers of New England, Volume IV, page 232). William Sumner was born in 1605. Willian Sumner settled in Dorchester Massachusetts. in 1636 when he immigrated to the Colonies. He married Mary West in Bicester on 22 Oct 1625 (Colonial Families of the United States of America, Volume III, page 550-551). This reference gives death date of about 1688. He came to Dorchester in 1636. He was Deputy of the General Court in 1658, Clerk of the Train Band in 1663. He married Mary West in 1625 and she died in 1676 (Compendium of American Genealogy, Volume I, page 992). William Sumner was made a freeman in 1637. He Deputy to the General Court and a Selectman. He was a rater and a Commissioner from 1663 to 1671.
