BIOGRAPHY: William Carpenter of Rehoboth was born in England and came on the Bevis in 1638 with his father and grandfather when he was 7 years of age. He married Priscilla Bonett on 5 Oct 1651 and they had: John b. 19 Oct 1652, William b. 20 Jun 1659, Priscilla b. 24 Jul 1661 married Richard Sweet, Benjamin b. 20 Oct 1663. Wife Priscilla died giving birth to Benjamin. William Carpenter married Miriam Searle on 10 Dec 1663 and they had: Josiah b. 18 Dec 1664, Nathaniel b. 12 May 1667, Daniel b. 8 Oct 1669, Noah b. 28 Mar 1672, Miriam b. 16 Oct 1674 married Jonathan Bliss, Obadiah b. 12 Mar 1678, Ephraim b. 25 Apr 1681 died young, Hannah b. 10 Apr 1684 married Jonathan Chase, Abigailb. 15 Apr 1687 married Daniel Perrin. William Carpenter was town clerk from 1668 until his death 16 Jan 1704 at age 72. Miriam died 7 May 1722 at age 76 (Genealogical Directory of the First Settlers of New England, Volume I, page 337).
