HUSBAND NOTES: BIOGRAPHY-SPOUSE: John Case sailed from Gravesend, England in 3 Sep1635 on the Dorset. He landed at Newport, Rhode Island, but settled in Windsor Connecticut. In 1667 he settled in Simsbury and received a grant of land. He was a farmer and owner of large acreages of land. He married Sarah Spencer in 1657. He was recognized for his moral influence as well as his business integrity (Publication of Genealogy Unlimited Society, Inc., 2511, Valdosta, Georgia, Volume IV Number 1 May 1988 and Volume V Number 8 Dec 1991). BIOGRAPHY-SPOUSE-CHILDREN: John Case live in New London in 1656 and moved to Windsor in 1657 where he married Sarah Spencer, daughter of William Spencer. They had the following children: Elizabeth b. 1658 married Joseph Lewis in 1674 she died 9 Oct 1718, Mary b. 22 Jun 1660 married William Alderman in 1679 and James Hilyer on 30 Mar 1699 she died 22 Aug 1725, John b. 5 Nov 1662 married Mary Olcott on 12 Sep 1684 he died 22 May 1733, William b. 5 Jun 1665 married Elizabeth Holcomb in 1688 he died 31 Mar 1700, Samuel b. 1 Jun 1667 married Mary Westover he died 30 Jul 1725. The following children were born in Simsbury: Richard b. 27 Aug 1669 married Elizabeth Purchase died 30 Mar 1694, Bartholomew b. Oct 1670, Joseph b. 6 Apr 1674 married Ann Eno 6 Apr 1699 he died 11 Aug 1748, Sarah b. 14 Aug 1676 married Joseph Phelps, Jr. on 6 Nov 1699 she died 2 May 1704, Abigail b. 4 May 1682 married Joseph Westover on 1 Sep 1701 (Genealogical Directory of the First Settlers of New England, p. 345). BIOGRAPHY: John Case was constable in Simsbury on 14 Oct 1669 and Representative at the General Court for the town in 1670 and several years later. Sara Spencer died 3 Nov 1691 at age 55, he later married Elizabeth the widow of Nathaniel Loomis and daughter of John Moore. John Case died 21 Feb 1704, Elizabeth died 23 Jul 1728 at age 90. All of the children were living in 1700 (THE ALDERMANS IN AMERICA). BIOGRAPHY-CHILDREN: Confirms above children with the following additions or differences: Daughter Elizabeth later married second husband John Fuller in 1684. Mary married William Alderman on 22 Jun 1679. James Hilyer is spelled "Hillyer", Olcott is spelled "Olcutt". John later married second wife Sarah Holcomb (sister of brothers wife) in 1693. Samuel later married Elizabeth Owens Thrall on 8 Nov 1721. Richard married Amy Reed on 1 Sep 1701 and he died around 1746 (no mention of Elizabeth Purchase). Bartholomew married Mary Humphrey on 7 Dec 1699 and he died around 1725. It is said that John Case was the first Englishman living in the Dutch Providence of Long Island and that the name "Yankee" comes from Jan Kees, the Dutch for John Case. He was appointed Town Constable by a General Court of Hartford on 14 Oct 1669. This was the first person to ever hold an official position in Simsbury, Connecticut.
