HUSBAND NOTES:
In 1840 John Giddens was recorded in the Randolph County, Georgia census. He was living next door to Thomas Smith, his probably father in law. According the the marriage records he married Nancy Smith on 11 Apr 1847, however in the Indian War Pension Application, Nancy claims she was married on 12 Sep 1831. According to Folks Huxford, John Giddens was married twice to sisters Sarah and Nancy Smith. This is a mistery since there is no documentation of the first marriage. John's grave has not been found. He appeared in the Randolph County census in 1850 and in the Berrien County census in 1860. He purchased land from his brother Frederick north of what is now New Lois, but sold it back to him a few months later. It is possible that John was buried on the property of Benjamin Wooding.
According a widow's pension application dated 12 Mar 1890, Columbia County, Florida, Nancy Giddens applied for a pension. John Giddens elisted in the Indian War on 10 Jul 1840 in Raldolph County, Georgia. He served in the Regiment of Sanford, commanded by Captain Glover. When he enrolled he was 30 years of age, 5 1/2 feet tall, blue eyes, light hair, and a farmer by occupation. He was born in Lowndes County. After serving he resided in Randolph County until he died. Nancy Smith married to John Giddens on 12 Sep 1831. He died in Berrien County on 1 Apr 1866 and she did not remarry. NOTE: The marriage date is not correct according the the marriage certificate.
