!PARENTS-RESIDENCE-LAND-SPOUSE: Boddie, John Bennett. HISTORICAL SOUTHERN FAMILIES VOL IV, Redwood City California, Pacific Coast Publishers, 1960, p. 126. Recorded as a purchaser of land in Chowan County, North Carolina in 1716. Identified as a resident of Nansemond County, VA. In 1718 he patented 400 acres in Chowan County adjacent to land granted on same date to Thomas Jernigan. In 1720 granted additional 640 acres in same locality. Listed as resident of Chowan County in 1720. Listed in Bertie County records in 1724-25. His will is dated 10 Jan 1733/4 in Bertie County, North Carolina. Wife is Temperence and survived him.

John Jernigan is recorded as purchaser of land in Chowan County, NC in 1716. He was a resident of Nansemond at the time. (Hathaway, NORTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL REGISTER, Volume 1, page 443). He was on the Roster of Captain Robert Patterson's Company on 11 Apr 1720 (Ray, OLD ALBEMARLE, page 596). In 1723 he sold to John Williams both of Nansemond County, Virginia 100 acres, part of patent to said Jernigan on Wolf Pit Branch adjoining lands of Thomas Jernigan [this refers to land in Chowan County, NC] (Hathaway, NORTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL REGISTER, Volume 2, page 283). The will of John Jernigan was dated 10 Jan 1733/4 and proved at the following Feb term of Bertie County Court, NC. His wife Temperence survived him and was executrix of the will (Grimes, ABSTRACT OF WILLS 1690-1760, page 186).
