BIOGRAPHY: Daniel Dana of Cambridge married Naomi Crosswell and had the following children: First child: Thomas Dana baptized at Charlestown 25 Mar 1694. Married Mary Parker, daughter of Captain Josiah Parker and Elizabeth Saxton. He was a mason and innholder. He died in 1752. Second Child: Caleb Dana was baptized on 13 Jun 1697. He married Phebe Chandler daughter of Thomas Chandler, Jr. and Mary Stevens on 14 Jul 1726. He died 28 Apr 1769. Caleb Dana was the father of Rev. James Dana of Harvard College 1753, Doctor of Divinity and the father of the Honorable Samuel W. Dana of Yale College 1775 and Senator of the United States. Third Child: Richard Dana born 7 Apr 1700 according to source 2 and birth date is listed as 26 Jun 1700 by source 3. He graduated from Harvard College in 1718, married Lydia Trowbridge on 31 Jan 1737 according to source 2 and 31 May 1737 according to source 3. Lydia was born 1711 and died 7 Apr 1776 and the daughter of Thomas Trowbridge and Mary Goffe. Richard Dana died 17 May 1772. He was the father of Rev. Edmond Dana of Harvard College 1759 who had a curacy at Wroxeter near Shrewsbury in County Salop England. Rev Edmond Dana died in 1823. He was also the father of Francis Dana of Harvard College 1762 and Ambassador to Russia and China and Judge of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Francis died 25 Apr 1811. Next child according to this source: Naomi Dana born 7 Aug 1702, died 11 Mar 1725, married William Upham on 21 Jun 1722. (William Upham born 30 Oct 1697 and died 19 Aug 1776, son of Phineas Upham and Mary Mellins. William Upham married a second time to Thankful Dana (Naomi's cousin daughter of Joseph Dana. The third time he married Elizabeth Robinson. Next child: Timothy Dana born 16 Apr 1705, baptized 22 Apr 1705, died 3 May 1705. Next child: Priscilla Dana born 10 Mar 1705, married Seargent Joseph Hill on 24 Aug 1727 (he was the son of Joseph Hill and Elizabeth Peck). Joseph Hill died 21 May 1738 and Priscilla married second time to Captain Samuel Gookin of 15 May 1740. Priscilla died in Apr 1785. Next child: Daniel Dana who died 5 Dec 1713. Next child: Ebenezer Dana born 12 Dec 1711. Next child: Hepzibah Dana baptized 24 Oct 1714, married to Samuel Hastings on 8 May 1735. He was born 16 Apr 1710 and died 13 May 1776. He was the son of Stephen Hastings and Hannah Stacey and a tanner. He was a resident of Angier's Corner, Newton. Daniel Dana died 10 Oct 1749 and his widow Naomi died 24 Feb 1751 at 82 years old. Daniel Dana was born in Cambridge Massachusetts on 20 Mar 1663. He died there on 10 Oct 1749 in his 86th year. Testimony of Daniel Dana in a suit 5 Jan 1691 shows he was married before that date. His wife was Naomi Croswell who was born in Charlestown Massachusetts on 5 Dec 1670. She was admitted to the church on 6 Feb 1686 and died in Cambridge on 24 Feb 1650. She was the daughter of Thomas Croswell and Priscilla Upham. Her mother was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Upham who came to New England in 1635. Daniel Dana was in the military service in 1689 on Georgiarrison duty. He was a cooper and farmer and a highly esteemed member of the Cambridge Church, admitted 21 Feb 1696. He was on a committee in 1736 of "Wise Prudent and Blaimless Christians" to act as privy council to the minister. He was a tithing man 1698 and 1700 and surveyor of highways in 1702. In 1702 he "joine with Boston Perambulators" (surveyor of highways) selectman 1715 and 1725. Daniel Dana resided in the region where the family had so long lived, the south part of Cambridge (now Brighton). He Georgiave a lot of land to "The Inhabitants" for a school house, the deed is dated 28 Dec 1728 (Middlesex deeds 28, 216). The building was erected near the first church Brighton. A deed in the possession of the descendants shows Daniel Dana conveyed land to his son Richard 8 Nov 1731, witnessed by Ebenezer and Hephzibah, the younger children. Another deed filed in Pomfret Connecticut of Mar 1833 from Daniel to his son Ebenezer. His grave stone and that of his wife are both of slate and in fine preservation, are in the old burying grounds at Harvard Square. His will dated 18 Jan 1742 mentions his wife; daughters Priscilla and Hepsibeth; grandson William Upham, sons Thomas, Caleb, Richard, and Ebenezer.

He married Naomi Croswell daughter of Thomas Croswell and Priscilla Upham. Daniel Dana had a son Caleb Dana (1697-1769).
