BIOGRAPHY: Caleb Dana was the father of Rev. James Dana of Harvard College 1753, Doctor of Divinity and the father of the Honorable Samuel W. Dana of Yale College 1775 and a Senator of the United States (Genealogical Directory of the First Settlers of New England, Volume II, page 4).
BIOGRAPHY: Captain Caleb Dana born in Cambridge, Massachusetts baptized 13 Jun 1697. He died in Cambridge on 28 Apr 1769. He is burried in Brighton in the old burying grounds, but was afterward moved to Evergreen Cemetery in Brighton. He married Phebe Chandler in Andover on 14 July 1726. She was born 1707 and died 27 Nov 1772. She was the daughter of Thomas Chandler, Jr. and Mary Stevens. Caleb Dana resided in the part of Cambridge south of the Charles River which in now Brighton, and is included in Boston. He was a tanner and a deed of 1735 he was called a mason. He was on the board of selectmen several years. He was a Justice of the Peace. He owned land in Brookline, and also 3000 acres in Ashburnham where he built the first sawmill and gristmill there in 1752. He was the quartermaster of Captain John Cutting's troop of horse in 1746 and was later called "Captain". Caleb Dana died at age 72 years leaving an estate appraised at D5,468 13s 4d real estate; D371 5s 8d personal. In his will he metions his 5 children Phebe, Priscilla, Caleb, James, and George by name; speaks of the sickness of Caleb at Wallingford, Georgiave something to Phebe "if she returns to dwell in New England", the house where George dwells in Stow, stock in tanyard and silver tankard to George, house lands and church pew at Ashburnham and at Cambridge, etc. The children of Caleb Dana and Phebe Chandler are: (a) Caleb Dana born 20 Mar 1727 baptized 9 Apr 1727 died 6 Aug 1727 (b) Phebe Dana born 12 Jul 1729 married Henry Coolidge on 12 Sep 1747. Henry was born 13 Nov 1717 and died 28 Mar 1812. (c) Priscilla Dana born 24 Aug 1731 and died in Washington North Carolina 30 Sep 1788, married Simon Howard (d) Caleb Dana baptized 13 Aug 1733 (e) James Dana born 11 May 1735 (f) Philemon Dana baptized 11 Mar 1739 died young (g) George Dana born 1 Jan 1741 (The Dana Family in America, page 464-470)

Copies in possession of Diane Blanton Bargeron and June Blanton. Caleb Dana was born in 1697 and died in 1769. He was the son of Daniel Dana and Naomi Croswell. He married Phebe Chandler daughter of Thomas Chandler and Mary Stevens. He had a son named Caleb Dana (1733-1769).
