William Cone lived near the South Carolina Line near or on the PeeDee River. He served in the Cherokee War in South Carolina from 1759-1760 as a private under Colonel George G. Powell from Craven County, South Carolina.

!MILITARY: Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia, vol. III, compiled by Mrs. Howard H. McCall, Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, MD., 1969, p 58. William Cone, referred to as the elder William Cone was a Revolutionary War soldier from North Carolina. He was granted 287.5 acres of Bounty Land in Washington County, Georgia. He was referred to in the grant as an invalid soldier. The land was granted on the certificate of Colonel James Martin on 24 Apr 1784.
